Peter Brings the Shadows to Life [Skate Video]

May 24, 2012 · Gibs

Below is a skate video by ‘Joe Pease’ that is unlike most being it utilizes only shadows. The video itself was inspired by a Peter Pan essay that elaborates on the use of shadows and themes throughout. Check out the vid, remember The Pan, and then reflect with the essay. Cheers

Tokyo SLO-MODE

April 24, 2012 · goobiWarez

If you’re a fan of exploring like your humble and loyal blogger before you, this video made by Alex Lee will be nothing but inspiration. With music from Flying Lotus featuring Thom Yorke, this film was shot on the Canon T3i and starter lenses.

I’ve been obsessed with Japan, especially Tokyo, since I watched Lost in Translation with Billy Murray and Scarlett Johansson. I can’t wait to make it to this beautiful country someday and I’m sure I’ll have some Flying Lotus on the iPod as I cruise the streets.

Be sure to check out more videos by Alex Lee on Vimeo.

Beer recommendation: Why Sapporo of course

Supakitch & Koralie

Supakitch x Koralie // Posca

February 7, 2012 · Edgar Evan

This is short little documentary-esque film that takes a little dive into the minds of french street artists Supakitch x Koralie. If you haven’t checked them out yet you might go check out one of our previous articles of Supakitch x Korlaie // Metroplastique OR Supakitch x Koralie // Leonard de Leonard. This power duo of street artist has been blasting all over the inter-webs this past year with amazing murals (to say the least), showcasing videos of their step-by-step artistic process such as their video at the Metroplastique in France. Their art shows influences from the Japanese culture yet they put a different spin on it by adding elements of urban art to the mix, and other unique ways to apply their mind to the canvas. With some many various styles and influences Supakitch x Koralie are definitely bringing a new vibe to the street art world that is incredible.

You can find more info on Supakitch here and Koralie here.

Beer Recommendation: I’d rock a Flying Dog Tire Bite Golden Ale.

Stumbling around on Vimeo I came across this amazing documentary by House of Radon, which discusses the future of the creative world. It manages to hit every angle from an optimistic stand to an incredibly pessimistic stance, leaving myself as a entrepreneur a little worried but still incredibly excited for the future. Its an incredible watch and I highly recommend anyone who is interested in the creative world and it’s possible future to check it out.Your view of the creative future will be forever changed.

January 1, 2012 · Edgar Evan

With Bugg’s LifeMusic starting up just this year, these past few months have been proving ground of sorts breaking our name into the music blogosphere. It’s been some hard work, long nights, and many beers drunk but we’re getting there thanks to everyone’s support. I joined the clan and have posted below some of my favorite posts from this year. It’s been a fun year and Bugg’s LifeMusic is pumped to show you what we have in store for 2012!

All.I.Can

December 7, 2011 · Gibs

I’m going a little out of the box with this post since it doesn’t really fit in a category that we’ve covered here yet, but I just had my mind completely blown by ‘All.I.Can’, a ski movie with some of the most gorgeous cinematography I’ve ever seen. There are a few teaser trailers that do it justice, which I have posted below, but perhaps one of the most striking features of the film is that it’s purpose turned out to be somewhat political in it’s message of the dangers in climate change. ‘All.I.Can’ follows a group of skiers as they attempt to traverse some of the most intense mountains in the world as well as some urban skiing that is completely mind-blowing. One incredible feature in the film occurs a group of skiers camp out near an active volcano in Chile. They were able to ski the first two days, but on the third day they were unable, but only because it fucking erupted.

I’ve posted a few videos below that definitely do the film justice, but even if you aren’t a skier you will be able to appreciate and therefore should view it because it is truly a piece of art. Don’t get me wrong, I love Warren Miller flics as much as the next guy, but this is literally like a ‘Planet Earth’ interpretation of a ski movie (minus the stereotypical ski jock who’s girl you’re trying to steal). Enjoy. Also notice the swag use of LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Dance Yrself Clean’.

Beer Recommendation: Try with a Lion Stout.

HeavyD

Throwback Thursday – Heavy D

November 10, 2011 · goobiWarez

Just continuing on what good-buddy T.Bugg was saying, it sucks that we had to lose an amazing artist and contributor to music. Heavy D revived the dancing component to hip-hop.  His R & B  vibe together with rap vocals transformed this beloved genre of music into the pop phenomena that we know it is today (or can be anyway). Disregarding the negative connotation of pop, we all know that to become a “major, major” part of a certain culture, it is essential to have a pop component. It might be a stretch, but perhaps Heavy D,  made it possible for rappers to become the rock-star like celebrities that they are today. I didn’t know his music as well as I would have liked to, but here is to him and to his legacy.

Beer recommendation: my native brew – Inido.

Belmont

October 10, 2011 · Gibs

I am sitting here at T.Bugg’s place for the last day of fall break. This weekend was a dazed journey and my head has been spinning all weekend. I have to admit that people in certain parts of the country still don’t know what Belmont is and what exactly it’s all about. Right now all I can think about is how underrated and how unappreciated the fine arts are.

Currently, the school is ranked No. 7 in the Regional Universities South category and has been named a top “up-and-comer” for the fourth year in a row (belmont.edu).

Well that’s not even the beginning of it. Over the weekend I saw so many Belmont projects that blew my mind and I’m starting to wonder how it’s possible. Two big things made Belmont a great place in my eyes: artistic accomplishments and social entrepreneurship. Both of which I think have the power to change the world.

Beer recommendation: Yuengling Traditional Lager

‘Beats, Rhymes and Life’ [Documentary]

August 19, 2011 · Gibs

If you are reading this blog, chances are you are a fan of A Tribe Called Quest at least to a casual extent. My roommate and I just returned from seeing Beats, Rhymes and Life, which follows this group through their time together, especially focusing on their first three albums. While I do consider myself a fan, to be honest I didn’t really know that much about their history and the beefs that still exist within the group.

The film is narrated primarily by the members of the Tribe, making it both genuine as well as biased, which is probably the most interesting way to view it. The way Q-Tip would describe the process of creating an album would be completely different than they way that Phife would describe it, and through those different viewpoints it became clear why they could not continue to function as a group. The amount of passion that went into the creation of each album was truly inspiring and the efforts, especially from Q-Tip in creating the beats that set Tribe apart from a lot of their quality hip-hop pioneer peers. This was the first time that I realized that hip-hop as an art form is really one of the last remaining pure American art forms. I cannot put into words how much you need to see this film; it is truly breathtaking.

I know my posts are usually focused on newer tunes, but here is a classic. You know it. So do I. Fuck it.
