Better Buzz// Moon Taxi x Cherub

July 30, 2012 · Gibs

Awhile back we had the opportunity to go check out two of Nashville’s own Moon Taxi and Cherub. Beyond having the time of our lives the music spoke volumes for not only the artists but also the amount of people supporting the flourishing music scene here in Nashville. With Moon Taxi fresh from playing Bonnaroo as well as touring with Matisyahu, and Cherub ripe from dominating such festivals as Bonnaroo, Hangout, and Electric Forest (to name a few) the city more than welcomed their return. Below is our depiction of the ‘blurry’ experience shared by many remembered by less to one of Cherubs latest titled xoxo . Two epic music sets, a lot of beer, and one staggering sunrise amongst the steps of Cherub’s porch later…we have this to show for it..Cheers

Beer Recommendation: (Soon to grace the city of Nashville) Fat Bottom Brewery’s ‘Ruby Red American Ale’

-Special thanks to Nashville’s Independent Radio Lightning 100 and Tin Roof for making such an experience possible.

TR€€K€€P€R// Tropical Summrr Get Right 4 The Summrr Mixtape EP [Official Release]

July 25, 2012 · Gibs

Get a ‘bowl’. Sprinkle in some intricate yet traptastic beats. Add a heaping portion of dope, a dash of Chase Windu mastering, and you get yourself a heaping portion of TR€€K€€P€R’s latest pungent project “TR€€K€€P€R Tropical Summrr Get Right 4 The Summrr Mixtape EP.” If you missed the only and most recent release off the mixtape EP you can expect nothing short of trap meets talent. With upcoming show featuring KDSML, Herobust, Creative Control, and Hecto you can definitely expect to hear some of this dopeness at the free show on the 27th so get there and catch some good vibes by better people.

Sexploitation Project - Front WEB

Mr. Stereo – Sexploitation Project [Download]

July 19, 2012 · Gibs

Experimental music seems to be a defining characteristic of the modern underground internet music scene, which is why retro experimentation seems to have fascinated me more than a lot of what I’ve been hearing lately. Mr. Stereo, in his debut project, has taken inspiration from a genre of film that is probably justly under-appreciated and created a wonderfully complex compilation of sexploitation samples mixed with appropriate funk/jazz samples that make this one of the most interesting projects I have heard in quite a while. Just try not to listen to this entire project. Almost makes me want to watch a sexploitation movie. Well, it doesn’t, but almost. Enjoy the full stream below as well as the trailer, which uses clips from what I can only assume are a film guru’s shameful sex dreams.

Beer Recommendation: Try with a Flying Dog Old Scratch Amber.

Macro x Chase Windu// Tarantino

July 11, 2012 · Gibs

Its always good to hear a lyrically competent artist do dirty dirty things to such a clean beat. The correlation between the two seem be getting more and more difficult to find in an art form becoming suffocated by swag, egos, and personalities. With the word “lyricist” becoming an over saturated cliché, let me assure you that the thought and methodical approach to every syllable involved in his work more than validates Macro to such a title. When this type of process is equally matched with the swankiness of talented producer Chase Windu you get the following…..Dope. Check out the track and don’t forget to gawk in amazement at the artwork done, of course, by none other then BHC’s Sophisticated Yeti.

Beer Recommendation: Oskar Blues Brewery’s Dale’s Pale Ale

J Mars // ‘Stained Glass’ [Stream / Download]

July 9, 2012 · Gibs

I get a fair amount of submissions every week and it can often be very tedious to sort out who I can really get excited about. This makes it pretty easy to receive emails about J Mars since he seems to have a steady stream of really great tracks. You may remember the last track we posted from this Deleware MC, ‘Black Diamond Shamballas‘, his collaboration with Corn-Mill, well this time he’s back with another banger with the help of M&D Productions. Thank god for the creative types out there who don’t stop. Enjoy.

You can enjoy his mixtape Shiny Suits & Champagne Flutes, sometime in Mid-August and I can assure you, this will be one of the places you can find it.

Beer Recommendation: Would go well with a Dogfish Head Chicory Stout.

KDSML-TRAPJAW-COVER

KDSML // Trap Jaw Mixtape [Stream / Download]

July 9, 2012 · Gibs

The dance scene in Nashville is an interesting thing. Guys like Coach and KDSML have been around for a few years playing shows with the exact same crowd showing up every single Saturday for the Y2K shows. I had always just assumed it was fairly static. But after this past year seeing DJ after DJ pop up with the dubstep trend, it’s pretty apparent that we’re becoming a little more accepting towards it all.

I’ve made public my lack of knowledge on the dance scene so I won’t talk much more about that, but today hip-hop/trap/dance mainstay KDSML has released a mixtape that I’ve actually sat and listened to literally all the way through, which doesn’t happen very often anymore. I’ve been a real fan since I heard his production on the excellent Flossed In Space mixtape by Ziggurat, but until being mentally aware at one of his shows (the review he hosts every month at Exit/In) I hadn’t really looked very deep, but yo… this shit. You can stream and download KDSML’s entire Trap Jaw traptape over at Love Is Earth who is exclusively hosting it. Let’s hope that becomes a regular thing.

Almost Always // Failed Utopia [Download / Stream]

July 8, 2012 · Gibs

After dropping a fascinatingly curious teaser a little while back, Austin’s Almost Always (Curbside Jones + Corey Arnell) has finally dropped their excellent Failed Utopia project, and let me tell you, it’s one of the better releases I’ve heard this year. With flawless and original samples and thought provoking lyricism this will be one you won’t want to miss. Plus it’s free so you really have no excuse. So roll your windows down and turn up your speakers. Enjoy.

Easy Star All-Stars – Billie Jean

July 8, 2012 · myckalis

If you know anything about E.S.A. then you know that this Reggae-Dub collective is not scared to break any classic album down, re-roll it, and dub it out. Since the release of Dub Side of the Moon (reinterpretation of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon) I have been hooked. Their retake on “Money” literally blew my mind so after hearing “Billie Jean” I expect their new Thrillah Album to be extra bubbly also. Rest in peace to M.J. but his music is going to live on this summer!

Pradda // ‘Run It’ (prod. Lil Texas)

July 1, 2012 · Gibs

Heavyheads’ Pradda recently teamed up with M|O|D’s Lil Texas for the track ‘Run It’, and as I’m sure you’ll agree, this was a good move. Progressive beats matched with the better-with-every-track lyricism of Pradda create something that I think may be one of the better tracks I’ve heard recently. After hearing that collaboration with Trap Arnold I can’t wait to see who Pradda teams up with next. Stream ‘Run It’ below.

Beer Recommendation: Try with a French Broad IPA.
